Need advice on reclaiming money I lent to someone!

Hi

As I am trying to deal with my debts one of the first things that comes to mind is to re-claim as much money back as I can to help repay what I owe.

Last year I bought 2 separate items for a friend using my credit card over the internet. They were from 2 different internet sites / companies. I still have the email confirmations for both purchases and could probably get hold of the credit card statements showing the purchases. The reason I did this for my friend was because they required the items within a week but had no available funds for them (didnt have credit cards themselves to my knowledge at the time). It was agreed they would give me the cash or a cheque by the end of the following month. Obviously this did not happen and I am still waiting! Maybe too patiently but I am now scared of these friends and trying to move on

At the time I had both items dispatched to my address in my name as that seemed the easiest way to order due to the credit card being in my name so matchng my address. Both items were received and I think signed for on arrival by post / courier (unsure).

I then took the items round to my friend who thanked me and took them from me 'promising' to pay me back when they had the money spare. Gullible as I was and such good friends as we were at that time I accepted this verbal agreement.

I have asked them on several occasions if I can have my money back or the items in working order. Either I would keep them as I was going to get some for myself but cannot justify the expense neither at the time of purchase or at the moment, or I can sell them on E-bay or cash exchange to get something back. However I was met with not a very nice response, maybe my timing was a little inapropriate just before Christmas but we all make mistakes and as Christmas was cancelled for us we obviously didnt think before we spoke :o . Naturally to say our friendship broke up and they are now very hostile toward me. I have asked again and am close to asking once more but not sure if I can handle the added stress of their predicted nasty reply.

Ok, with this background now in mind my question is what do / can I do?

Shall I just write it off as lost and try and move on from the mental torment of a lost friendship and hopefully learn from my mistakes this time once and for all?

Do / can I take to the small claims court and face the tyrade of abuse?

Any other suggestions as I am clueless?

Not only have they severed our once 'best' friendship but I am aware they have spread rumours about me between once mutual friends so no one wants to know me anymore! I know I have probably brought it on myself but the stress in addition to the other headaches of debt are I feel leading to despair, sleepless nights and depression as the whole thing is torturing me inside.

Many thanks.

Have a read of this, it may help, I haven't got time just now to read it myself.

Hi that was one of my questions about small claims! Thanks for the advice - if I claimed via the online service could I be anonymouse? Although theres the likelyhood of having a backlash as the friend could put 2 & 2 together easily I presume.

Without digging out files I cant say how much the amounts were for, will have a look a bit later today. I do know theyt were anthing between £90 and £200 (I know its a wide guestimate but there were other factors to such a debt). WIll update you as best I can soon.

    Thanks
