Virgin Active Membership Fees

This is both a question and a warning.....

The other day I made an enquiry at my Virgin Active Gym and as a result was presented with a list of all the membership prices. Upon checking I found that I am paying £6 per month too much for my membership.

I pointed this out today and was informed that the prices change and the price I was given is just the price it was on that day, although they have passed my query on to the membership team who should contact me tomorrow or Friday.

When I joined the gym I was never given a list of prices and I did point out at the time I had no way of comparing the prices for the different levels of membership but this seemed to fall on deaf ears.

Now my question....

I am going to request a refund of the difference between what I am paying and the published membership price, do I have a legal right to this refund?

And my warning........

If you are a member of a Virgin active gym get a price list and check that you are not being ripped off. The very blase person I spoke to today said, "that's nothing some of the members who joined when we were Esporta are paying way more than that"!

I only found out I was paying the wrong price by accident, this seems VERY wrong to me. Surely they have some sort of duty to make sure we pay the right price? They'd soon tell us if we were not paying enough!

For info here are the prices for membership of Virgin Active Gloucester (I know they charge different rates at different sites)......

Diamond...........….....£48.95
Club only............…...£49.00
Club only Diamond.....£39.95
55+...................…...£37.00
Student...........…......£32.00
16+.........................£25.00

  • Well I've spoken to the membership manager and she says the rates changed 3 months ago. They apparently advertised it by putting notices on the changing room doors! I must walk around with my eyes closed or maybe I was not at the gym that day! :rolleyes:

    Nice isn't it how they will send you all sorts of junk mail trying to sell you something but when it comes to something that will save you money they don't make any effort to make sure you know about it.

    :confused: So anyway all I will say is if you are a Virgin Active member ask at reception for an up to date price list and make sure you are paying the correct rate. Luckily I've only been paying the wrong rate for 3 months it could have been far worse.
