Where to get cheap london pass???

Options
Hi, there are 5 of us going to london in august (4 adults and 1 child aged 11) and I am looking for the cheapest way to purchase underground tickets and entrance into some attractions (e.g. tower of london/ st pauls catherdral/ tower bridge). I have read about the london pass, but the price is a little steep. I was wondering if anyone knows a cheaper way to purchase these. Many thanks

The London Pass IS expensive unless you really go for it with the sightseeing - however, many of the museums listed are free anyway, so it isn't as good value as it first appears.

If you are travelling by train then you can get some great deals for sightseeing attractions as well as meals by presenting your rail ticket with the vouchers that you can find in a booklet from the station - see info on this website: http://www.daysoutguide.co.uk/

For example, you can get BOGOF tickets on all the below and many more attractions with a rail ticket:

    Kensington Palace
    http://www.hrp.org.uk/
Tower of London (Crown jewels, Yeomen of the Guard)/Tower Bridge
    Shakespeare's Globe Exhibition
    http://www.shakespeares-globe.org/

For a special visit you can apply for free tickets to join a small group at the Ceremony of the Keys at the Tower of London: http://www.hrp.org.uk/TowerOfLondon/WhatsOn/ceremonyofthekeys.aspx

Don't forget that if travelling by train you can save with the Group Save offer:
Whether you travel as a group of adults, or in any combination of adults and children, your party of 3 or 4 people will only pay the equivalent of just 2 adult Cheap Day Returns, 2 adult Off-Peak Day Travelcards (for travel to the capital only from stations outside of the London area), 2 adult Saver Returns, or 2 adult Network AwayBreak Return tickets. If it's a real kids' treat, up to 4 more 5-15 year olds can travel for £1 each, single or return!
    - see http://www.daysoutguide.co.uk/group-save.aspx

I think that the cheapest way to travel by Underground is to buy Oyster cards - a plastic card that you buy credit for then touch onto a pad as you board/leave a Tube/bus etc - much better than paying for a ticket for each journey and so much more convenient - Oyster is London's ticketing and revenue system. At its heart is the Oyster card, a 'smartcard' which makes buying and using tickets easier.
An Oyster card can store up to £90 of cash which can be used to pay as you go, plus your Travelcard or Bus Pass.
It can be used on the Tube, trams, buses, DLR, London Overground and some National Rail services in London.
Pay as you go has several advantages over paper tickets:
    • Oyster single fares are generally cheaper
    • Credit can be used as you need it and doesn't expire
    • Daily price capping automatically calculates the cheapest fare for the journeys you make in a single day
Check out/buy Oyster cards here: https://oyster.tfl.gov.uk/oyster/entry.do
You can also get a lot of BOGOF offers with an Oyster card: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/microsites/oysteroffers/

Hope this helps you - have a great trip!:cheesy:

Rail tickets can only be used with the daysoutguide offers if they are valid on that day - so if you buy cheap single tickets to cut the train cost the offers are only valid on the days that you are travelling

HOWEVER the offers on daysoutguide can also be used with PAPER London Travelcards - ie the 1 & 3 day Travelcards bought at Tube & Train Stations and the 7 day Travelcards bought at Train Station BOOKING Offices.

Oystercards of all varieties are not acceptable unless you have a month or longer season ticket on it.

As for the London Pass - DON'T BUY THE TRAVEL OPTION - as for 99.999999999999% of tourists it costs too much as it covers all zones whereas most tourists never go outside the central zones of 1 & 2

For comparing costs please see this link from Trip Advisor which gives details of the cost savings using London Pass / Days Out Guide

I can't see that as a term and condition on the Oystercard site - I must admit that I had read it that you could get the offers using any Oystercard - but I would appreciate clarification on this.

    I found this:
Customers must use an Oyster card to travel by bus, Tube, tram, DLR or London Overground to be eligible for the discounts.
To be eligible for a discount, customers must have used an Oyster card to travel to the venue that day by London Underground, Docklands Light Railway or a Transport for London (TfL) London Bus, tram or London Overground and must retain and present to venue staff an Oyster card that is valid for that travel on the day of redemption. Oyster cards may be scanned to verify usage.

Hi, thanks for that information, certainly gave me something to think about. Think I will give the london pass a miss and stick to arranging everything seperately.

Thanks very much for all who replied.

Hi ronin and welcome to MSE.

I thought it was a bit strange of you to resurrect a 19 month old thread so I did a little bit of research. Seems that site was only registered on the 5th of this month by Farhan Munir in Karachi, Pakistan. You're not related to Farhan then?

Anyway there's no address or phone number on that website so it's not to be trusted.
