Reclaiming PPI - what are my chances?

Hi, I'm new to the forums and would like some advice.
I recently discovered that I've been paying £12.10 a month to my bank. They told me it was for an accident insurance policy and gave me the number to call.
I just spoke to the insurance company and they said that:
a) it was taken out in 2000!
b) it would have been via a telemarketing call
c) when I said I knew nothing about it and had no paperwork, the lady said 'ah, it seems no paperwork was sent out to you at the time'. (they are sending me a copy now).
I am going to send a letter to them asking for a refund - do I have a good case?
They may say that I was stupid for not noticing for 8 years - and I am! I have a feeling they will use this to say I can't claim it back. What do you think?
Thanks
Claire

Yes you do!
Isnt it weird that they didnt send you paerwork before but now they will???? I used to work in a bank and someone in the branch was setting up o/d's etc on customers accounts without them knowing but saying that they had called them and had agreed to this. Its all sales points and targets in the bank thats how you hear alot of these. Needless to say the person got found out and sacked but they still did it to alot of accounts!
Good Luck! xx0/2013

This is not PPI. It is a general insurance for accident cover. So all the things you read about payment protection claiming back do not apply.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0

Thanks guys. Yes I couldn't believe it when she said that by mistake they never sent me the paperwork.
So if it's not PPI there are no laws to help me claim? Surely if they didn't send me paperwork it's not fair? I never signed up to this.
Oh well, I suppose I'll just have to cancel the policy and make sure I check every bank statement carefully.0
