Electric hook up for camping - what to buy

Last year we had electric hook up for camping and hired from the campsite a light with 2 sockets underneath that you could plug things into in the tent. It looked pretty dodgy to me but it worked fine. We ran everything from a fridge, to a radio, laptop and even hair straighteners! This year we are going somewhere different and the pitch has electric hook up, but they say we need to have our own cable. the best ones (and most expensive) seems to be the ones with 3 plugs (really need more than one socket) and some kind of circuit breaker. Others seem to be just an outside connection (the round blue one) and an extension lead with a number of plugs on the end. My question is are they both safe? I still can't get over the idea of electricity in a tent, but it's v. useful with 4 small children. I have asked the campsite, but the answer they gave me wasn't very clear. Do the regulations vary according to campsites? Any advice would be useful as we are going in 2 weeks time and I need to buy one to run my fridge from! thanks!

Can I suggest you look at ukcampsite.co.uk which has a sticky with all the information you need.0

Make sure you get one with a circuit breaker because as far as I know, if you are the cause of putting the whole campsite into darkness, you are liable for the bill to fix it!0

Glad I saw this, didn't know you needed your own hook up at some sites, so will have to invest before we go next month! Thanks

Looks like I'm going to have to spend £50+ to get the safest thing. With 4 children around I don't want to take any risks. We plan to power the electric coolbox, and possibly 2 George Foremans from it. Anyone seen any offers on these units ?0

They had a special offer last week at Go Outdoors, £29.99 - not sure if it's still on though.0
