I would like help with plants

I would like to buy a nice plant for a largish outdoor pot, sunny position(when we have any sun) I would like it to be a perennial plant - flowers every year.
At the moment I have a form of carnation in it, now that the flowers have gone over I'm left with a very untidy mess/mass of green stalks and hay like stalks and I don't like it.
Does anybody please have an idea of a nice established plant that I could buy that would look nice flowered for the next couple of months but after the flowering stage would continue to look nice greenery wise.
Many TIA.

there are so many - hydrangea, hebe, choysia, look in your library for books on gardening and look for plants with 'year round interest' e.g. evergreen that flower in the summer. Have fun

kay41 thank you for you help, I'm going to look up the ones you suggested.

TiTheRev - After your comment I was scouring up and down the front page to find it, been here a while and never seen or taken notice of it before. Thanks for pointing it out.

Would a moderator if they have time move this please.
