Refused refund on PPI Claim

I recently tried to reclaim £1800 from a company that I believe mis-sold insurance payment protection, on a loan I took out five years ago for ten years. At the time I was self employed and when I recently looked at the policy it would not cover for self employed people. I used the template from this site, and sent off my letter with appropiate documents. Like many others I believe, I signed the document without reading the small print (my fault), however they claim I had full knowledge of the terms of the policy, and are refusing to refund any of the money. How do they know I had full knowledge? No one ever discussed the loan with me, it was all done by post. Until I read the policy I didn't even know I had an insurance on the loan. Do you think there is any mileage in going to the Finacial Ombudsman? I am now in employment, also I have another four years eight months to run on the loan and I don't want them to suddenly say I must pay up in full. Any comments, suggestions, would be appreciated.

I had the same answer yesterday, just send off the second letter from here. Go to the ppi reclaiming section and follow the steps from there. Good luck xx

They will in most cases refuse your claim ! eta: if you were self employed and you told them this as part of the loan application, and they STILL sold you an insurance you wernt eligible for then you keep at it till the bitter end - you have a perfect example of misselling ! it doesnt matter that you signed the T&C's in this instance as they should have highlighted that you were not eligible ! this is as straightforward as it gets :D lucky for you :D

dispute it - using martins guide and keep at it....it might take a few months to get a full resolution but whats a few letters versus a few thousand quid ??
