Well, I am taking the plunge tomorrow and having my grey roots removed:eek: and a cut. I have never used the salon before but the stylist's hair always looks fab. I usually pay £62 for my hair to be done but I am so skint I can't afford it. This salon charges £55 for a half head, highlights with 2 colours with cut n blowdry. As my hair is being done by a trainee under supervision I have been told that I will pay half price:j
If the trainee is supervised then I don't see the problem.0 -
I have mine done at the hairdressing college in Birmingham, the lst time I went in June I had 2 different coloured highlights done with foils and a semi permanent colour on the rest and it cost me £23. I have had it done there for the last 2 years and have always been really pleased with it. The students are fully supervised, it does take a bit longer than in a saloon but well worth it for the money saved. That price included the cut and blow dry too.0

I regularly have mine done at work(College) students are well supervised and it is much cheaper, appointments are not as easy to get though as it has to fit in with their timetable. Some of the students are on day release anyway,so it is feasible that if you went to a salon, that same student would do your hair but you would be charged twice as much!!! Ask for level 3 students for colour though ,just to be a bit more secure in their knowledge base.0

I was doing a search for heair and beauty college haircuts and came across this thread.
I'm guessing now the 'credit cruch' has gathered pace in recent months more people might be using these facilities.
Has anyone got anymore comments to add about the services? I fancy trying them out myself.
Cheers,

I wouldn't go anywhere else other than my local College! Been going there for 5 years now and have a quasi colour and c&bd which comes to £15ish for both. This way I can afford to have me hair done 4 -5 times a year. I just couldn't go back to paying £70+ for the same thing in a hairdressers. Like another poster said, you do have to be aware that it takes a lot longer and fit in with their timetable, so with the one I go to I book a 1/2 day and go in on a weekday afternoon at 1pm for a 3.30 - 4pm finish. Also don't expect the red carpet treatment, a lot of the students are quiet as they are concentrating and you won't get much chat (but maybe that's a good thing!)

I regularly go to Thurrock Tech college they are fab, they have a beauty dept too which is at 50% cheaper than a salon and all the girls work in local salons so very able to do the work. They usually have certain criteria to fulfill for their portfolios & that is why they have clients. have had 2 colour foil treatment for £20 & it was the best it has ever been done. do allow a little longer timewise as they have to check things off etc.. but I have never had a problem.Duct tape is like the force. It has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the world together."
