suede effect stuff is terrible.. it get nasty marks on, doesn't wear well at all and is manky looking in no time.

If the frame and springs are sound yes it is very much worth recovering it

I'd go with removable covers you can take off and wash.. a big throw would be perfect in the meantime.

If you have a dunelm local to you they have fabulous furnishing fabrics at reasnable prices..

    Hi Karren,
If you can sew, have some patience and access to good fabric and long zips, then have a go yourself. An overlocker is handy for any raw edges. You don't need posh fabric for everything- use less good fabric on the actual settee where cushions will be on top (but on the cushions use good stuff both sides so you can flip them over). Make sure you wash your fabric before starting to sew with it- shrinkage before cutting it is the correct way to do it.

But if you are time-limited it's a long job. I can sew pretty well, and got lots of help from my evening class teacher, but I got bored with the whole thing when I did 2 x 2seater settees, plus 4 back cushions, plus 4 seat cushions.

Throws are great ;), or if you want something more fitted have a look at some of the small ads in the back of magazines- not Plumbs but some of the smaller companies.
