Jewellery Valuation

Hi,
What is a reasonable charge for valuing a diamond ring for insurance purposes? My local jeweller wants £60 but that sounds a lot.
Any thoughts please?

bit over the top. i have 1 diamond ring, 1 opal and diamon ring, 1 tennis bracelet, 1 neckace, 1 gold watch
all valued at £2.500 for £25.00 = 1%
suggest that you ask at one of the old establised jewellers as apposed to
h samuel and the like.
I would suggest you taking a photograph of yourself wearing the ring.
My husband lost a gold bracelet which was 15 years old, obviously we did
not have a receipt but a photograph was enough for "proof of ownership"make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

The assay office [responsible for UK hallmarking] offer a valuation service through retail jewellers.. their website is here:
