GPS / Sat Nav Advice

Hello All.
I'm relatively new to posting on the fora so please forgive me if this is the wrong place to ask. I am in the market for my very first Sat Nav as I have seen the light and decided they are actually a very useful piece of kit. I want it to be pretty easy to use and have reliable re-routing software. Preferable I would also like European maps and traffic information built in. Currently I have narrowed my search down to th eNavigon TS7000 and the Garmin Nuvi 250.
Which is better of these two? Can anyone suggest anything better?
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

I would allways recommend the Garmin I have used my 250: http://www.bushiauto.com/acatalog/copy_of_Garmin_.html all over Europe many times without one misshap.
There are some good deals out now on the 250 as it has now been superseeded (sp) by the 255 if you donot need the extra features then you can grab a bargain but If you are set on Traffic alerts AND European mapping then you will need to go for the 255T
https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=134&pID=30042 which also allows you to miss toll roads (a great help in France, Italy) and motorways.

The back up website provided by Garmin is great and you can be certain that you will be able to upgrade your maps in the future.

Usability is well worth trying out both in somwhere like Halfords, but like for like at amazon:

    Garmin 255 Europe £133
    TomTom One V4 Europe £150

    Garmin 200 UK £99

This won't help you as it doesn't have european mapping or traffic info but just a FYI for anyone else...

The Sunday Times recently did a review of a bunch of Sat Navs (over a range of prices) and this one came out on top overall...it's only £84.99 and we've been really happy with it irrespective of the price. Works a treat & looks very neat on the dashboard. Can't go wrong! Nifty feature is that it points out speed cameras. I wouldn't live without it now!

  • I agree that you need to go somewhere like Halfords to physically see what each has to offer. We bought a TomTom 910 ages ago and when we were comparing it with some of the other models at Halfords it was interesting to see the differnces between the models and how awkward it could be to use some of the features on some of them.

Thank you all for the advice. I think I'll go for the Garmin Nuvi 255. Does anyone have hands-on experience of this particular model? Unfortunately I can't get to a Halfords as I'm not physically in the country.

Yes indeed Rev you can buy the old version 3 with UK only mapping with no traffic reports for £99, this is not exactly like for like, you can also buy an AA map book for £4.99 from Borders ;)

If you cannot play with one in person this is the next best thing to compare use:
