Question:

After reading these posts I was wondering what happens after o/ call/meeting.
My dh got told that the o/r will have control over your money for a year, surely thats against data protectiuon?

How long do you have a nt code for? Do you have to pay tax back?

Anyone not pay the £150 court fees?We have just been awarded working tax credit.

THANKS.......

The OR does not control your income for the year, but can check it if he so wishes (thinks you are hiding something). Every asset you have he does control, so you cannot sell your house/car etc without his consent or say so.

You will sign a form giving the OR complete access to your inland revenue details for the past and present, and whilst you are undischarged.

If you are given a NT code (which means you pay zero tax and what you would pay goes to the OR instead - you do not pay or need to pay extra to the taxman), this lasts for the remainder of this tax year and this money must be paid to the OR, or whomever he permits to collect on his behalf. If you are given an NT code in August for example but they have not yet organised a method to collect this, then you must keep it seperate - its not yours, so save it elsewhere until, its asked for.

With regards to the court fees, what tax credit are you getting - working tax ONLY or child tax with that???
  • We are getting both at the moment.

In that case you won't pay the £150 court fee, at worst if you don't turn up on the day with the correct paperwork you may have to claim a refund.

As skylight said above the OR doesn't control your money at all, infact if you open a bank account after BR you don't even have to tell them the account no. etc.,

Sorry, but you wont get the fee remission based on that. You only get it if you are getting ONLY working Tax credit, not both.

Concession 1This concession is available to you if you provide evidence that you currently receive any one of the following four means-tested benefits:• Income-Support• Income-Based Jobseeker’s Allowance• State Pension Guarantee Credit• Working Tax Credit but not in receipt of Child Tax Credit.

The full details are here, as you may be able to get the remission under something else (like low income etc)

I had remission on basis of income.I receive contributions based Jobseekers so had to provide 3 months of bank statements. The clerk went through these on the day and I only had to pay the £345:wave:

if you have less than 16k (jointly with a partner) a year income 9whatever it is) and provide evidence you are exempt from fees.
