My "Hard Times" Diary.

Well is has only taken 6 days and I am back online....yeha!
I so had withdrawal symptoms...I missed my daily clicks, read of MSE gossip and Big Brother updates (sad I know lol).
Well things haven't been too bad. I received a £284 tax rebate (that I chased up after using the tax rebate estimator off this site.) It took seven weeks from the initial letter I sent to tax to receiving the cheque but worth the wait.
My work place is now going on the market, so I have worked plenty of overtime, helping the proprietor clean the place, ready for the decorators.
So with the overtime and my tax rebate, we have managed to get most of the gas boiler money together - which I am so pleased about. No more cold showers and tepid baths.
My DP proposed last week and after been together for 8 years and loving him loads I decided to say yes.
So we are going to do a MSE special wedding - as cheap as we can get it...but still making it a fabulous day to remember.
I have booked the local registry office for March next year and we are only having 4 guests to the ceremony - (My mum, my son and DPs parents) and
that costs £140.
The plan is to have a friend take photos & videos of the day, we will be buying wedding rings and my dress but my O/H and my son already have lovely suits.
I am not bothering with flowers...as prefer to see them growing in the ground rather than hacked up for a bouquet and I am not bothering with bridesmaids and page boys etc. Too much fuss...and expense.
But...I do want a splendid evening celebration/reception to invite my family and friends to (approx 80 people) and of course a big fat, chocolate wedding cake.
So that will be fun, trying to find a nice venue, wedding buffet for 80 people, late bar & disco, without spending a fortune...and not booking a dump.
I think I shall toddle off and see if I can find any MSE threads about cheap weddings and does the Sun newspaper do honeymoons for £9.50.:rotfl:
P.S it's great to be back online....yayyyyyyyyyyy!:T0 -
Congrats on your pending wedding. x x x
Have you thought about printing your wedding invites on your computer rather than spending on expensive ones from the printers?
My sisters invites worked out at £3.75 each and she had 100 people to her wedding. No wonder she is £14'000 in debt because of her wedding.0 -
Thanks Protogenia. x
I am just going through a reall fab thread on here which gives hundreds of cheap ideas for weddings on a budget - and yes I think I will probably print our own wedding invites.
S0 far the evening venues that we have looked at (including food) vary from £400 to £1100 and the real bummer is...I like the expensive one best.
Typical eh???0 -
And just in case anyone else is getting wed on a budget, the thread I am refering to is: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=416080
