Do you use milk tokens?

I do,
Just asked the OH to pop into tesco and use some to get DD some baby milk but he was refused because apparently they have been told not to accept milk tokens on follow on milk.
I have never had this problem with tesco or anyone else before.
Has anyone else had the same problem?

This is what the Healthy Start website says:
Milk
This must be plain cow's milk and can be whole, semi-skimmed or skimmed. It must also be pasteurised, sterilised, long-life or ultra-heat treated.
You cannot get flavoured milk, coloured milk, evaporated milk, condensed milk, goat's milk, soya milk, powdered milk (unless it's infant formula) or milk with anything added to it, such as vitamins. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
I don't think you've ever been able to officially use milk tokens for follow-on milk - at least not in the 7+ years I've had them.
I think you've perhaps just been lucky in the past, as the tokens are intended for necessities, and as far as most health professionals are concerned, follow on is a choice not a requirement.DFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0 -
i never had a problem buying follow on milk with healthy start vouchers, however in asda recently i was told i could only use 3 vouchers at a time even though i had spent well over £40 on milk, formula, fruit an veg!0

It is absolutely true. Follow on milk, is absolutely not necessary at all for infants who eat a full and varied diet. I have been advised this by Dr's and paediatricians. Infants need either breast-milk or infant formula, at the age of one cows milk is a perfectly adequate and suitable addition to their now varied diet, follow-on milk is an expensive money making spinner invented by huge companies, to make huge amounts of money, by making ordinary people feel like they will only be good parents if they continue to feed they children an artificial substance that tastes foul.
It is much more sensible (and easier and cheaper) for a young child to drink organic milk, than to continue increasing the powdered milk companies already vast profits. This is why you should not be able to use the vouchers for follow-on milks, and why they are more often on offer, and why you cannot get points at boots for infant formulas but you can for f-o-m.
 It makes me really upset that so many parents are bullied by marketing into giving their children these foul artificial formulas! Would you drink them? They are rough.
Contrary to the implication, that infants need to move on to follow-on-milk at 6 months, this is tosh to, the formulas are all a weaned/weaning baby needs until they are 1. It's all just about money, not our babies. Imagine how much extra money they make, by implying to parents that your child needs f-o-m until it's 2!!! Thats a whole extra year.:starmod: I am not that savage :heartpuls But I am a Vixen :staradmin0 -
I work for Tesco and have done for 16 years on the checkout, and no one has ever told me not to take milk tokens for follow on milk or any special milk, as follow on might be a choice but people buying goats milk or soya milk might be allergic to cows milk
We have been told to take them for milk or fresh fruit and veg.
If a coupon scans off I take it.0 -
Oh well it looks like i'm going to have to go backwards with the milk.
My DD will not drink cows milk, she hates it. I have tried many times to change her over to it, even tried when she wakes for a drink in the middle of the night hoping that she won't notice but she's having none of it!
It is her one comfort, she doesn't have a dummy or anything like that. I would much prefer her to have baby milk then squash or something else that is in my opinion 'artificial'. And before anyone jumps in and says that baby milk is artificial, Yes it may be but at least the artificial; ingredients are there for a reason and are not just there for taste, colour etc.
I will have a try today though with a different check out person just to see if I can get away with it.0 -

Also used to get around the ban on advertising infant formula, they can advertise F-O-M, parents see that and also think formula.
We never used follow on milk, though never use formula either, there's a reason women produce milk. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -

You probably will get away with it with a different check out! Have you tried slowly mixing the cows milk in, 1 ounce at a time? I had 3 breast fed until one, who went straight to cows milk, and 2 that were bottle fed from 8 weeks as they had reflux. With one, I had to slowly cross over by adding a little at a time, until she didn't notice! 1 ounce of milk and 7 of formula, the 2 of milk and 6 of formula etc. It worked for her.
The other is 2 and on rice milk as she has a dairy intolerance. I worried about her, as it has far less nutrients added. but the nutritionist advised me that with her varied diet it was fine.
Watered fruit juices are good to, but I don't think anyone would give a baby squash!!!!:starmod: I am not that savage :heartpuls But I am a Vixen :staradmin0
