Internationally acclaimed and hailed by critics as a modern-day classic, the multiple Oscar-winning, darkly atmospheric masterpiece from Miramax Films There Will Be Blood will be released on single-disc DVD, in a two-disc set and on Blu-ray disc on July 7 by Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment.
The cinematic epic has won over 43 awards to date including an Oscar for ‘Best Achievement in Cinematography’ and also ‘Best Actor in a Leading Role’ awards for Daniel Day Lewis at the Academy Awards, Golden Globes and BAFTAs among others.
Day Lewis delivers a mesmerising, tour-de-force performance as Daniel Plainview - a rags-to-riches oil prospector. After hearing oil-rich land can be bought cheaply in California, Plainview moves his operation to the impoverished town of Little Boston with his adopted son, HW, and uses his charm and charisma to exploit local landowners into selling their property to him.
Intent on acquiring vast wealth at any cost, Plainview’s dark, ruthless dream of wrestling oil from American soil is realised after encountering the mysterious Paul Sunday (Paul Dano) who claims an ocean of oil can be found underneath his family’s ranch.
Plainview manages to sweet talk the Sunday family into selling their drilling rights for a paltry sum but gets more than he bargained for in Paul’s twin brother Eli (also Paul Dano). Equally as ambitious and unforgiving, Eli becomes fixated on extracting money from the oilman …with devastating results.
Ensemble cast members include Ciaran Hinds, Kevin J. Connor and the film introduces Dillon Freasier as Plainview’s son, HW.
