Want to open a bank account TOMORROW with bad credit rating

Hi

My partner and I have a bad credit rating. He doesn`t have an active bank account at moment and we use my student O/D with Halifax.

We are currently doing everything we can to pay are debts off in a year (25K, see my other thread) and thought we could open a joint account somewhere to pay this money into whilst we save it up to get enough to pay our debts.

What bank would you recommend?

Also should we save enough to pay one creditor and pay them or wait till we have the full amount to pay all are creditors. The one we owe most to is 15000, and the othersapprox 3000 each. All interests are frozen.

Please help we would like to open an account tomorrow

Thanks

Chose a bank/buliding society that has no ties to any of your creditors.

Other than that most banks offer a basic account.

I would probably pay the creditors as and when i could to stop the temptation of dipping into the money.

I opened a Natwest Step account for all my bills to be paid. It can be done online - no overdraft or cheque book but you do have internet banking, direct debits and standing orders and a solo card.

You will need one thats not linked to any of your creditors though xx

Who are your creditors? It sounds as if you have a DMP arrangement in which case you need a basic bank account with a new bank
No longer using this account for new posts from 2013

Another option is the Co-op Cashminder account. Like the Natwest Step account it's very basic - no OD or cheque book, but does have internet banking, DD facilities and an Electron card.

It doesn't pay interest on your balance though, so if you're looking for an account to be used for saving then the Step account might be better :)

A&L £50 offer is still on but only on 'proper' current accounts £50for Premier Current Account£50for Premier Direct Current Account£50for Premier 21£50for Premier 50

A&L are also doing £20 on an esaver account. which might be handy to have if the OP is wanting to save up to pay lump sums to creditors.

I have an Abbey and Halifax basic account. Abbey gets my salary and pays any bills - what's left goes to the Halifax for me to spend.

The Abbey account is very basic Cashpoint card. DD's + Internet Banking.

The Halifax also gives you a Visa Electron Card.
