Sugar Substitutes

hi all.

I was just wondering if you'll be using sugar for biscuits, cakes, etc, is it cheaper to use dried fruit, and if so, is it all fruit in general, or are certain fruits more money-saving than others?

my mum always used to bake a chocolate and a madeira cake cake every weekend when we were little, and when mine starts to get bigger this is something i'd like to do. but id like to try and make it healthier and cheaper.

at 90p a bag it doesnt break the bank but it all adds up-especially as i havent quite gotten around to giving up sugar in my coffees! will do soon-promise!!

also, how does the weight thing work out? is it oz per oz? half sugar to fruit? or does it depend on the recipe?

Thanks!!!
