BEST PRINTERS FOR PHOTO'S???HELP

Iwant a printer for printing off photo's only and would prefer Epson, I know off the RX300 but don't know if it's an OK printer so would like advice or what ever you can recommend to work with the computer and direct input of memory card from digital camera.
Also I'd like to try one of these I think there called Photomate printers they usually do 6x4 prints, does anyone know where I can get these at the best price, you just put the memory card in these too.
Any help would be appreciated. :)

Thank You in advance.

I don't think this answers your question, but Canon have got great reviews for quality of colour prints. I got bargain end of line i865 recently and it works well.

If you just want to print out what is on card, it might be more straightforward going into somewhere like Boots or Jessops and getting them done that way.

Thank You gjam52, But the whole idea of getting one of these printers & photomate is to totally avoid having to go to places like that now.
It is nice to be able to print out your photo,s as and when you want them. :)

I have printed some off on my general printer but the colour quality would be much better using a printer basically for printing off photo's..
But Thank You again for your time and reply. :)

Perhaps I have posted this in the wrong board ???

Don't know much about 'photo printers' as I load up mine photo's onto disc and run off at Boots when they do 50 for £5.

Not much help however you could try looking at ...

    http://www.computershopper.co.uk/

Then go to the reviews section - select printers and you can choose to seach over the last 12 mths

Tip: If you click on the RATING column header it saves alot of time.

    Hope it helps

    :)

PS Top of the list is ...

    HEWLETT-PACKARD DeskJet 5150
    £71

    EXPERT'S VERDICT

"Better print quality on plain paper than any other printer under £150, and results on photo paper are breathtaking."

    EDITOR'S VERDICT

"A winning combination of speed, quality and price makes it perfect for virtually every PC user."

  • Hi Pat,
I was using a 'canon s330 photo' printer up until a few days ago, and I have loved it. The photos were easily good enough for snaps. If I had a particular one I wanted to frame, I'd prob take it to a shop and have it done properly anyhow.
Then.....disaster.....looks like the printer head's gone- it's stopped printing black. aargh! My fault, I've used it heavy duty to run off a LOT of flyers.
Today-wahey! I'm back online as I've been and bought myself a canon ip1500. It's at the lower end of the range, but I've printed some lovely pics already. Can't tell properly yet as I've only printed indoors pics which were taken in poor light, but it's looking good. Cost me £50, inc 2 cartridges, from dixons. And the benefit of canon is that the ink costs less.

Anyway, I think that 50 photos for £5 sounds good too. Thats 13 sheets of A4 photo paper, 13 lots of ink for A4 colour prints....doesn't sound bad put like that does it! And it'll be quality paper too...nah, I'll stick with me canon for now-too lazy!!

I looked at all options up to £200 just over two months ago and the best value/all round buy was the Epson photo R300 which is readily available for around £90.

Long term issues include cost of carts and paper. Shop around for the latter and don't just stick to big brands. I use IRC 280gms Professional Gloss which won a Best Buy award from Computer Shopper. There are some recommendations about carts elsewhere on this forum. I stick to Epson.

Short term issue is price/bang per buck and this one delivers big time, even with CD and DVD printing.

I appreciate the convenience of doing this kind of stuff at home and the flexibility and speed. It's cheaper getting it done online or in the shops for most people: question of priorities. Quality is simply awesome. Buy it!

    Best of luck.
