Hi everyone, I have posted this as a new thread, but thought I would share it with my support group to!! (still feeling a bit angry about it really), feel free to tell me I am over-reacting.
  :A
Hi everyone,
I thought I would share with you my experience today of having shopping delivered by Tesco.
I have had this done many times before all without a hitch. However, todays delivery was the 1st I have done whilst banking with Abbey National. So last night I ordered a shop to be delivered today, because I had been sent a 'free delivery code' so thought why not? It arrived today and all was well.
We have our new bank account with Abbey (no OD) to enable us to start setting and living to a budget. Having started to use the account I can see it is a little annoying because we they still work like a building society and all transactions by card take '3' working days to show on your account, although they immediately effect your available balance. So I checked my balance online today and there was a '£4.28' difference between the current balance and the available balance (when we had taken account of a couple of other transactions we had made). So having at first blamed my OH for having done two sneaky switch transactions, instead of the one he told me about and him strongly denying it I thought I would call Abbey.
(sorry about this being so long, but I am really cross and have to get it all out)
Abbey confirmed that the odd £4.28 was called for by TESCO, and it is normally practive for tesco to call for £2 for everyone online shop request as a security check that the account is valid and has funds etc. I have never seen this before, has anyone else? Anyway, Abbey said TESCO had called for two transactions of £2 and £2.28 and although they will refund them and they won't actually leave my account it'll probably take 3 to 4 working days for this to happen. I am really cross for the following reasons:
1) They do not have authority to do this
2) It effects my available balance for the 3-5 days it takes for them to re-credit it.
What would happen if we had a SO or DDM that came out over that 3-5 days and it made us OD? I can see some weeks where this could happen.
I called TESCO to explain my concerns and was cut off twice!!!!
Then the third call (all of which I am paying for) I asked to speak to the person that cut me off and they weren't able to find him!!! So I had to explain again, that person didn't understand why it had happened and is going to explore and call me back.... (I won't hold my breath). He has since sent two emails refunding my delivery charge and giving me a £5 voucher, although I am really not sure I will be shopping with them again.
The guy on the phone said all internet sales, carry this transaction with them, e.g. companies other than tesco. Has anyone come across this before?
We have banked for many years with FD and transactions show immediately on that account and I have never, ever, seen a £2 debit and credit for TESCO with previous shops. TESCO's argument is that because it NEVER actually leaves the account it shouldn't be a problem, so is it only a problem for the banks that have this three day card clearance system??
Sorry to rant everyone, I mainly wanted to post to make others aware. I will update if and when I hear from TESCO.
Warm regards
