Cherry Cake And Ginger Beer

My postman has just delivered my copy of Cherry Cake and Ginger Beer by Jane Brocket (the author of 'The Gentle Art of Home Domesticity'). I'm so excited! I have been waiting for this book for ages and it looks like it is set to become a favorate cookbook in this household! Whilst a lot of the recipes are old and well know - and simple in the case of a tomato sandwich! - the book is really lovely and it is very much a nostalgic book.
Sorry, nothing really useful to say in this post, just wanted a 'ooh, I'm so excited about my new cookbook' moment - my housefull of 5 males (and my daughter) just don't understand why it is so exciting to get a new book of old recipes!

I'm a fan of Jane Brocket's too, I loved her first book and was inspired to ask for a set of food colourings for Christmas so I could make brightly coloured cakes like hers. I had a look at her latest book in waterstones the other day. Yes, it is a nice book, but I'm going to wait a while before buying it as I already have recipes for most of the things in the book.
Shame her blog has temporarily stopped.0 -
