help please?

my mum has just been turned down for a personal loan from her bank as they have found bankruptcy details registered to her name? she has no idea what this is and i have tried this morning to sign up for her online credit report to see and it won't give me it they are asking for further proof of identity eg passport birth certificate utility bill to be sent to them first?

she is very worried has lived at same address for 15 years and apart from a council tax problem 2 years ago that has since been settled at that address they have no other credit or money issues? what can we do? has anybody heard of this before?

i thought you had to declare yourself bankrrupt? :confused:
please help
