Free 'treasure chest' of books for kids!

Hi! Stumbled across this fab giveaway today!

Go to; https://www.surestart.gov.uk/aboutsurestart/parents/bookstart for details.

Basically the government are trying to encourage reading with children under 5 years old. They are just in the process of distributing fab packs of books for all kids. There are three different age groups, the mothers of babies will receive their packs via the health visitors, whilst older children will receive their packs through the pre school nurseries, hopefully. If your child does not attend a nursery you can obtain a pack via your local library or by phoning the number given on the website. The pack for 3-4 year olds looks the best, it is a treasure chest containing secret compartments, along with books, stickers, pens and more. What an excellent giveaway!

I understand the baby packs have been available for a while, however the older childs packs are a new thing and have only just been launched. I phoned my sons nursery today and was told that they'll be given a voucher next week to obtain their packs from the library, so they are definately there to be had! Maybe you could phone your local library, i was told by mine that they had the packs for all ages available there! ;)

My health visitor gave me the baby pack at my sons 9 month check a few weeks ago. It's really lovely, had a couple of good quality chunky board books and a book of action rhymes to do together. They were obviously well chosen because tiddler loves all three! There was also a catalogue for reduced price books which, if you ordered one, gave you free post and packing on all subsequent orders, indefinitely. Nice books too at good prices (think it was red house books, affiliated with a childresns book charity I think)

I didn't even know that this was available the HV just passed it over (in a handy calico shopping bag too), maybe it depends on what area you like as to whether the HV's know about it. (I'm in Herefordshire)
