Being ground into the dirt by Egg

Hello guys,
This is the first time I've ever started a thread. I woke up today feeling pretty positive and optimistic, I quit smoking yesterday and I quit drinking 3 months ago. I'm only receiving incapacity benefit at the moment due to ill-health and have been paying everything I don't need to live on to my credit card companies.
But one phone call to Egg this morning has changed all that.
I'd compelted a financial statement a couple of weeks ago and sent it back to them offering to pay them £40 a month. They phoned me back a couple of days later and said they would accept my offer for a period of 6 months.
I then phoned today to make a payment of £60 becayse I want to try and clear the debt as quickly as I can, and the lady said they had no record of them ever receving a financial statement from me and no record of anyone ever calling me on the date I said, and no record of anyone accepting my offer of £40.
I said, "Well what do you mean, are you suggesting I'm making it up?" and her response was simply, "Well....."
My stress levels have just gone through the roof, but now, I feel really depressed now.
She says I need to compelete another financial statement and send it back to them for them to consider accepting an offer from me. She wanted to take my payment for £60 still, but I told her politely to get stuffed while I thought about it.
They're really grinding me down. Quite honestly, I've got enough problems at the moment and when I'm doing all I can to try and get this sorted and just starting to recover in health-terms, it seems like they're chucking every obstacle in my way.
I don't know whether to call them back and try telling them again that they've already accepted my offer and to check their records again (but it's like talking to a brick wall) or just to try and calm down and phone and pay them the money and complete another financial statement and send it and wait for them to accept or reject my offer.
They're doing my head in. If I get through today without a cigarette it'll be a miracle!
Yours, sad jack.

Hello,
Im sorry to hear about your experience. Do you have a copy of the financial statement that you sent to them? It may be that you ring back and the person you speak to is a little more helpful than the other, you could have ended up a newbie that doesnt understand the system - just a possibility. Hopefully some1 else with more experience in the matter will be along soon. Remember to always ask of the name of who you are speaking to, if they dont give out names ask for their identification number - most places like this should assigned their staff with number. Good luckxXx0 -
Thanks Stacie. I have a copy of it because I scanned it on my computer before I posted it to them, but I don't have any proof that I posted it.
Perhaps I would have been better posting this on the Debt-free wannabee board? I've PM'd one of the board guides to see if they can move it there.
I'm going to have some dinner and then decide what to do I think.0 -

Hey Jack
I am new to all this too, but not new to the world of business. My advice to you would be ONLY deal in writing and tell them to only deal in writing with you. That way you always have a copy, also if you can afford it send things recorded delivery.
I hope you get it sorted out, best of luck. The good you do comes back to you.DFW Long haul supporters No: 134

Hi Jack
Sorry to hear about the bad phonecall. Try not to let it get you down too much.
I would suggest sending them another letter (send it recorded if you can) saying about the conversation you had with someone, put in as much detail as yuo can, and then resent your financial statement re-itterating that you want to pay the £40 a month as AGREED BY THEM! Also ask them to send you confrmation in writing that they will agree to this.
You should be proud of yourself having given up drinken and smoking! :T

Egg, in my humble opinion, are absolute cack at administration......I have got to the point now, where nothing more can go wrong, so I am actually quite calm about it, in a strange sort of way!!
don't take this lying down - get back on to them and if need be take it as far as you need. in the past I have had to take things to the ombudsman with Egg, and never regretted the "fight".Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. I would simply grit my teeth, resend it (recorded) and then put in a note to say this is the second time it's been sent, it's a courtesy as you've already had it accepted and put as much detail about the call - the time, whether it ws a man or woman etc.
Keep your cool love, at least it's getting sorted. This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!

Hi Jacktyler,
As other people have mentioned, you could send another copy of your financial statement by recorded delivery then you have got proof that you have sent it.
When it comes to making payments either pay them by standing order or payment book – don’t set up any direct debits with them as you need to have control of your payments at all times.
Don’t feel pressured into paying them anymore than you can afford ie the £40. Once you situation has improved this is something you can then look at increasing.
Ask them to remove you number from the database. This will then stop the calls for you and then send any correspondence in writing. This should ease some of the pressure for you.

Thanks for all your advice. I'm going to send another financial statement by registered post and call them tomorrow to let them know I've posted it, as well, as making the payment. I'll let you all know how I get on. I feel much better for sharing it with you guys, thanks again. (I've still not smoked by the way, don't want them to win!
