Good Morning,
my wife would like to learn German. Unfortunately we are living in Newry, and it seems they don't offer any evening courses anywhere around here.
Anyone knows which college (or Language School) in South Down would offer German Language Courses?
So far I can only find some in Belfast, but she would rather not have to drive two nights a week to Belfast. But if so, which college would be best located for for someone who comes from Newry?
Cheers,
DSAB

As you have t'internet, why not get her to try online learning? Lots of free courses (see HERE for an example), and the advantage of lots of spoken phrases so that she can listen to as well. Even the BBC do free language courses (although they are mostly holiday phrases).
I did this a couple of years ago when travelling to Berlin, and it worked out fine. I was able to ask for directions etc after just a few lessons.
Certainly worth doing this as she may not enjoy the language, and saves you forking out for wasted classes if it's not what she thought it would be. Get her to think of it as an introductory course.
You might also get some cheap courses in Boyds on Hill Street. They regularly have lots of rtavel and language books upstairs. Cheap too!0 -
Or this link from this week's email:

One of the free courses links people together to chat over the net/phone so you get to learn german (for example) and they get to learn english. At least thats what it suggests. I might have a go at French later this year. Good luck.0 -
Thanks for your input.
The reason that she wants to learn german is that I am German. That way she will be able to communicate better with my family, and already preparing for the day we might move back.
Unfortunately online courses don't really sit well with her. She prefers the classroom based learning.
We have now found one that suits in Belfast, and she will go there.
Cheers,

P.S. I am aware that I could teach her, but in that case we might get divorced before she ever gets a decent grap of the language.
I don't think teaching your partner works very well. 0
