On line holiday booking

Warning,Read the booking conditions.
I have just booked online with a reputable site but after booking my flight then booking my hotel & being given a total holiday cost I was directed to pay a deposit of £300.I did this only to be directed to the next page & after they had my bank details they then offered me the extras for the flight.Meals & hold luggage come as extras adding a possible £50 per person extra cost to the total cost.As I had paid a deposit I questioned the charges of the luggage & was mis-informed on the costs on the telephone & had to pay £60 extra to take luggage on the journey.I contacted the carrier directly who would have only charged half that of the agent so it may save you money to book the flight directly with the airline & book the accomodation with the agent.
My advice is read the smallprint & phone if unsure of terms.A more reputable company may have shown these extras at the bottom of the flight booking page prior to taking a deposit.
