Tesco Overcharging

Hi experts

I went into my local tesco today and purchased 2 pizzas buy one get one free (they were also reduced), however the bogoff did not come off. I therefore went to the customer service desk and told them they would only give me £1.89 back even though I had been charged this amount twice. I challenged the lady behind the customer service desk and said to her that they advertised that if you are overcharged you get the product free. She tried telling me that I should only have £1.89 back. I didn't have time to get her to call a manager so took my £1.89 and left I then telephoned head office when I got home who basically told me to phone the store. I asked them to get the store to contact me.

Anyway guys to cut a long story short am I in the right should I have got my money back under their policy?

I must say Tesco may be the no 1 supermarket but there customer service leaves a lot to be desired, I have spoken to their head office a couple of times and all they seem to do is fob you off.

Thanks

BOGOFs no longer apply if you are buying reduced items. This changed about six weeks ago so you need to be careful as is can sometimes be cheaper to buy two items from the normal shelf instead of reduced.

In addition, where items are reduced, if they make a mistake you only get the difference back, not a refund and keep the goods.

Therefore, if you were correctly charged the actual reduced prices you in fact were not entitled to anything back.
  • Bogof's should apply if buying reduced items unless it is clearly displayed that they aren't otherwise the store is breaking trading standards. They should also really give you the additional money off eg buy two save £1 deals unless clearly marked although I have never argued the point on this matter. Any trading standards officers on here to clarify this point. Used to work for another retailer and we were given signs by H.O to put in the fridges were the reduced stuff was to explain that multibuys and offers were not valid on reduced goods. If these are not displayed then the store could be fined by trading standards, I pressume this would still be the case.

Our store has these clearly displayed, that is how I was able to convey it to you. They are on the reduced shelves and the customer services desk (which is by the entrance so you have to walk past it to go into the store).

Beanie ... I'm sorry you've had problems ((hugs))

*Our* Tesco's will still honour the BOGOF  I know that when I first enquired around various Supermarkets re: policy on such things (it's a while ago!) they did use the stock phrase: "But, it's down to the Store Manager in each store ... "

Tip for you (not helpful in this instance) Sainsbury's DEFINATELY still honour the BOGOF's ;)

Put your situation down in writing to the Store Manager ... try to phrase it as a query rather than a complaint ... you never know! ;)

2 weeks ago I bought some large mangoes that were reduced and on BOGOF and the BOGOF still applied.

This last weekend I bought 4 finest meals all reduced to £0.40 each and the buy2 save £1 still applied so the 4 meals actually cost me minus 40p.

Not sure what would have happened if that was all I had in my basket, would they give me 40 pence from the till? :D

I no longer shop at Tescos due to the terrible customer service and always being overcharged (check your bill VERY carefully when shopping at Tescos). Out of my 4 last shops I was overcharged every time and had to argue with CS to get my money back. They also have a habit of putting offer signs over the wrong stock so you think you're getting BOGOF of X, but actually it applies to Y!!

Also please remember that calling 0870 numbers costs 8p/min or more so you might end up paying a few quid to complain! I spent over £2 last time and managed to get 300 points added to my card when I pointed this out.
Don't blame me, it was like that when I got here!
