Powergen's Gas Bill Calculations ?

Hi,

Can anyone help to resolve my confusion over Powergen's gas usage alculation method please. I quote the instructions from their bill:

1. Multiply the cubic metres used by the standard temperature and pressure conversion factor shown within the charges details.
2. Multiply by the calorific value of the gas supplied.
3. Divide by 3.6 to convert from therms to kWh.

Seems pretty straightforward, so here are my figures...

Current Reading 4234
Previous Reading 4111
Volume Used 123hcf
Conversion factor 1.022640
Calorific value 39.3000

So, Step One: my volume used is 123. This is multiplied by a conversion factor of 1.022640. This equals 125.7847.

Step Two: Multiply 125.7847 by the calorific value of the gas supplied, which is 39.3000. This equals 4943.339.

Step Three: Divide this by 3.6. This equals 1373.15.

So, having done this simple calculation and ended up with 1373.15, how comes Powergen end up with a figure of 3886? Can anyone help?

Cheers,
Dave

    Dave,

Like me, it looks as if you do not have a metric gas meter. As you say, you have used 123 hcf (Hundreds of Cubic Feet). Multiply this by 2.8 to get Cu M and your answer will then be the same as theirs.

I'm sure earlier bills used to explain this, but like so many other Powergen customers, I think their admin leaves a lot to be desired. Regards, JohnF
