Haggling help needed!!

Me and a member of my family are going to be spending about 1500-2000pounds next Friday to buy about 6 kitchen appliances. We both agreed going together gives us more spending power? And that we may be able to try get a discount because we intend to spend a fair bit. The shopping centre we are going to, has Comet across the road from Curry’s. So the plan is to try and haggle and try get 5-10% discount?? What are our chances, and has anyone got any hints ‘n tips they could give us in trying to get a good deal/discount. Should we be upfront and say we are going to be spending a fair bit we want a discount or try play the two company’s off against each other. Many thanks!

I haggle for a living and my OH is a car dealer - so lots of experience - he also used to sell electrical applicances. Just go in tell them what you want and then ask them whats their best price - then try and knock a bit more off. If you're spending £2k I would try and get 10% off. It's all subjective really - you have to know what you'd be happy paying and if you're happy getting 5% then go for 10% - if you're not happy with anyhting less than 5% then just walk away - they'll probably call you back. I wouldn't run back and forward between the two too much - its best to know what the prices are in each shop before you start - one could be a lot cheaper than the other to start with and therefore will probably give you less discount. Also once you've got them down and if they aren't going any more thans ay 5% off ask for something thrown in - say a microwave or something worth about £40. If that fails ask for a warranty thrown in for something. I'm sure you have your own views on warranties especially reading this site - so beware if they start trying to get you to buy them - just say no from the beginning. Good luck and let me know how you get on.DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY

Wouldn't you be better doing an internet search for proper electrical discount places that offer keen prices, rather than dealing with rubbish outlets such as Comet & the like? There are good bargains out there if you're prepared to spend a little time shopping around & doing a search. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
You'd do better to use Comet & Currys to purely view and select which appliances you want - noting down model numbers etc.
Then visit https://www.kelkoo.co.uk to search out the best prices.
A work colleague has just saved himself £200 on a £700 Currys dual-fuel cooker by using Kelkoo. You can haggle all day in Currys and you won't beat that kind of discount!0 -
I spent a grand on multiple electrical goods when I moved into my current house. Comet were useless and offered nothing, curry's said only the senior manager could give a discount and he wasn't there.
The only possible saving is if you pick the stuff up and avoid delivery charges. Mean while hunt for what you want on internet discount sites and you'll probably get it cheaper.

Also try https://www.pricerunner.co.uk and https://www.pricegrabber.co.uk there are some other retailers which aren't linked to these websites you could try, but it would depend on what items you were after.

I spent a small fortune on these types of items when I bought my house last year, Comet and Currys and the like never budge anymore, if you really want to buy from Currys use some of the discount codes, recently saved about £40 off a £280 washing machines.2p off is still 2p off!0

Why not try and ring/web search...
https://www.hienergyshop.co.uk
We have in recent years bought double oven, fridge and washing machine from them.
All were 'single' purchases, and all were at the time, cheaper than any offer on at the major stores.
As I remember they are part of Scottish Energy..... but the product will come from a local store anyway....
There are only a handful of people in the 'call centre' and they are not paid on selling products.....
Their extended guarantees are worth it,,,,, these alone will save you hundreds...
I'm sure if you asked them about multi-purchases they would offer you an even bigger discount....
Be polite, and friendly.. chatty... and ASK nicely.....
Their prices are really good anyway... so if you don't get a discount then don't be too upset.....
Good Luck0
