work for the police?

Does anyone know if the police still outsource interview transcription work? I'm doing a bit of this from home, and would dearly love to get some more. I'm already security cleared to the nth degree by one of the people I already work for, so should be able to get through any screening procedure!

Since the focus is back on front line policing, they are taking officers out of offices and putting them back on the beat, so they are looking for more support staff to do police desk jobs (like I do) and not less!! Again, not sure how true this is for IT jobs, since this is specialist and officers wouldnt do it anyway, but they do what I do and theres going to be plenty of spaces opening up in the next few years!
I wasn't sure when I heard it, but it did come from some people at a regional meeting. As you say though, they are trying to get more officers out on the street & away from desks, so will need more staff in the background to do the work.0 -
If I were the OP, I think I'd try and move up in IT rather than going the police route - my sister (3 years older) and her OH (in my year) both work for the police. I work in IT. Rather frustratingly my sister got a pay rise lately - otherwise I was going to be earning more than them both put together in the next year...There's a slight regional variation to account for, etc, but I still think money's much better elsewhere if you're good at what you do.
Also, she's really struggled trying to get another job internally so she can work in the station nearer to her home - and her OH has had his training cancelled and thus his career effectively stalled because of budget issues...0
