    Sell To Rent.

It means taking money out of the housing market by knowingly selling to somebody who would be better off renting. Like I had hoped to do.

Sold To Rent. People who sold their houses, to rent instead. There are several reasons to have done this.

Thank you, I knew it had something to do with renting but I kept thinking

    strive to rent
    starve to rent
    starting to rent

The STRs atre the people who are desperate for a house price crash.

Many of them sold their homes a few years ago, putting the money in the bank and using the interest to pay the rent. They thought prices were so high the market would crash and they would make a killing by buying back in cheaply.

    They are just speculators really.

Instead prices just went on rising and after a while they couldn't even afford to buy back the house they had sold, much less make a profit. That's why they are so hopeful now that they can at last get back in without making a loss.
    Trying to keep it simple...;)

There are many reasons but simply selling up and renting does not make someone an STR IMO (in my opinion). I reserve STR to describe someone who sells with the hope of buying again when the prices fall thereby making a conscious decision to 'play the market'. Just like selling shares when you think share prices will fall.

'Selling to rent' because they cannot manage their mortgage is not STR in my eyes - that is more like GR (getting real).
