Making a new will

Hi,
I made a will several years ago with a previous partner.
I am now with a new partner , and living in a new area so I/we would like to make a new will.
I would like to know what happens to my previous will . Are wills lodged centrally somewhere , do the solicitors inform my previous solicitor that my previous will is now redundant.

thanks.

You can have your will lodged at your solicitors but most people just keep them in a safe place at home. I suggest you make your new will, and phone up the old solicitor and ask them to destroy your old will.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

I recently read my DH's grandmother's will, and it contained a statement that went along these lines 'this document takes precedence over all previous wills and is my one and only true statement', so it's obviously a common thing for people to change their wills over time. Provided you keep your new will in a safe place (and let your trustees/executors know where it is) then your estate should be safe from someone who has a copy of the old will. Whoever has the latest copy is the winner.
