Becoming an after dinner/lecture speaker

Hi all, was wondering if any of you helpful people have any experience of giving after dinner speaches or lecture series. I am asking on behalf of my dad, a few years ago he was offered a series of lectures across Canada and America for a month, however his employer at the time was unsupportive so he did not take up the oppertunity. He now regrets this, and is a very confident public speaker and well regarded in his field (local history/industrial development, mining, victortian type history etc). Does anyone know of any companies who organise after dinner speakers or guest lecturers?

Hi Dinah
In recent years my mum has been asked to give lectures or read papers at dinners or events but these are all tied in with the Universities she has attended. As these are in Ireland, and her contacts are her lecturers or course tutors, I doubt they would be much help to you!
Perhaps your father could contact the history departments at some local Universities? If this is too daunting, maybe the Council or the local libraries have local history departments who would be delighted to organise some events?
Hope this helps
