    Hi Bigmomma

The course is home learning one - I thought it was going to be easy peasy lemon squeezy but it isnt - my marks have been good so far but I did get a C for one of them (blame the American text for that) still, I am doing ok and have reached my 6th assignment. I chat to fellow students on Facebook and we swap tips on the assignments and the pitfalls to look out for. The course is equivalent to an HND which I think is one step short of a degree:confused:

I just need a name for my business - thought of one but I no longer like it (call me fickle) and having looking in my local yellow pages there are only 4 listed and none of them have a decent name.

Apologies to OP for hijacking the post.

I've had to regularly attend the church which we are getting married in, even though it's in my parents village, but then i'm not too worried because i think if you want to get married in a church you should at least attend it. (Just my opinion)

When I got married (some years ago, I must admit) you could apply to the Archbishop of Canterbury for a licence to be married in a church outside your parish.

I don't know if this is still the case. At the time (1989) the licence cost around £50.

I may of fibbed about my current address in order to get my daughter christened in the same church I was...

Not exactly a good start, is it?

The law will be changing later this year so that people can marry in churches that are not within their parish. I remember seeing it either on an email with regard to my wedding planning course or on the BBC News website.
Yes the vicar I spoke to mentioned something about this.

Not sure if you know this, but make sure you get your banns read in both parishes. We only found this out the other week. The marrying church needs to see the banns certificate of the parish you reside in before they can legally marry you.

Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?

What people are over looking is the fact that they could get married in a 'non-conformist' church, if they so wished, and therefore there is no requirements for residency/banns etc, as you get a married by certificate from the registrar.

My church is non-conformist... But you can only really get married there if you are a member, it is very rare for non members to be married and only then if they attend a church elsewhere. I don't think non-church goers would be married there....

I also agree with Lemon Tree that it's quite good manners to attend a church if you expect to be married there... And if you want to have your union done in the eyes of God, it's nice to give him a little attention before hand to!
