Actually you need to look carefully at what YOUR basing your calculation on before you start trying to rip other peoples to pieces.

Mine works fine for me, but thanks for your (in)competent analysis

Well, aside from all the poor arithmetic in the figures you've whipped up and some unlikely claims (rounding up both your payments, getting £50 worth of tyres to cover 20k, Brake pads to last 60k@? and the exhaust system too? A £7k to £4k drop for 60,000 miles and 3 years older, and a randomly low £250 insurance figure), I was hardly "ripping you to pieces" (touchy), and my analysis was hardly "incompetent". You seem to have a bit of a chip on your shoulder and a bad attitude.

And you're residual value of a "couple of thousand" seems to have leapt to £4,000, wow it's doubled! Like magic it's managed to slide into your claim!!

    ttfn.
  • you can lose £4k in a year let alone 3

Done on a spreadhsheet, so hardly - that is a very poor attempt..

I rounded to make the figures simple for you (as - even with the £93 difference, I still make a worthwhile profit

The car I bought from new, so the original tyres last about 30K. Over 3 years, 60K would go through another set, £150 (which is actually more than what I paid in tyres over the last 3yrs), or £50 a year.

Brake pads every 20K, of twice in the 3 yrs I keep the car. The exhaust can easily last 60K on a new car. These could come out of the £250 allocated for maintenance per year or the £750 over 3 yrs.

Based on real life figures, when I sold the car 3yrs later. You can see on Autotrader or Parker's the estimated price you can achieve, obviously the higher priced car you buy the higher depreciation.

My insurance was actually half that for the past 3 years as I have been using quidco (ask someone to let you into the secret and you might be lucky). Again, obviously if your writing off cars here there an every where, how do you expect your insurance to be anythng like that

You insinuated and have continued to insinuate that my calculations are incorrect and impossible. When I am living out these figures!

I think I have a right to be touchy. How would you like to be told you can't possibly be doing something when you are actually doing it at this very moment.

First you condone me for not being accurate enough and rounding up and then you have a go for putting in an accurate estimation!

You have to compare apples with apples. I am merely showing it CAN be done and at a worthwhile profit. Obviously if your going to buy a more expensive car, there will be higher running costs and greater depreciation which eventually will mean it's not profitable.

I gave figures to try to aid others and show it can be done, expecting them to be ripped apart by some close minded numpty who's situation doesn't work for him, so won't except that not everyone's situation is the same and it can work for someone else.

Done on a spreadsheet for accuracy - but then rounds up - so accuracy out of the window- and another childish insult. Gosh, cut me to the bone.

You posted some vague figures, I queried them, you're getting all upset and throwing childish names about. You're really taking this to heart aren't you?

"Accurate Estimation" - Have you got a dictionary?

I think if you actually read my first post I agreed that a profit can be made.

Me a numpty? I queried a few figures. You're getting all upset and going back to school yard name calling. Which of us is really a numpty?

Perhaps you should tell your mum that someone has queried your figures, she might pat you on the head or something?

So where was this 'poor arithmetic in the figures you've whipped up'?

You posted some vague figures, I queried them, you're getting all upset and throwing childish names about. You're really taking this to heart aren't you?
Not in the slightest, I know I have tried to help others by posting my figures and showing it can work. Any numbskull can can try to pull down other person's figures and and it didn't take long before you arrived. I'd like to see things from your point of view but I can't seem to get my head that far up my a*se!!!!!!!

"Accurate Estimation" - Have you got a dictionary?
Having a go at my dyslexia now - Hmmmm, really showing the type of person you are...

Me a numpty? I queried a few figures. You're getting all upset and going back to school yard name calling. Which of us is really a numpty?
Ohh my god, you actually believe your funny - bet you your chuckling to your train set.
Beleive me, you think far too much of yourself, it would take a much better ediot than you to upset me.

Perhaps you should tell your mum that someone has queried your figures, she might pat you on the head or something?
    You mentioned a school yard.....pot - kettle - black.

But just to finish (as you've accused me of being in the schoolyard so much I may as well take advantage of it) - while you're here with us who is at home disappointing your wife?
