Can I claim JSA?

I have just finished my teacher training and have a job which starts in September. In the mean time can I claim JSA?

I'm not really sure of my entitlements.

What are you doing to look for work in July and August?

I can't speak with authority but as I understood it, if you're actively seeking work you can have means-tested or contributions-based JSA up to the date you start work - in theory as you won't get a back-to-work interview for three months you would be covered providing you're actively seeking employment. I am not in any way condoning pretending to find work, for the sake of clarity though!

Sign on anyway, even if its just to get your contributions paid - they will tell you if you're entitled to jsa and other benefits like council tax/housing benefit.
