What a great opportunity to teach yoru kids about budgeting & nutrition at the same time as improving their diets & spending less:cool:. They are quite old enough to be involved and be told the truth : "we are spending too much money on food, if we can all pull together & cut back we'll have a good christmas but if not then things are going to be very diffcuilt this year" for example. How about not only letting them help cook meals but letting them have some say in what the meals are going to be? Let them each choose one meal a week (obviously with your overall approval, otherwise you could have pizza 3 times a week:rolleyes:) but they meal has to contain one portion of protien, one portion of carbohydrate & at least 2 portions of veg etc etc and cost less than a total of £X. You could vary the requirements & costs each week to make sure they get variety .
