  • hello. i have some sad news my mum passed away on thursday. as some of you know she had small cell lung cancer she was having chemo but the first 6 dose course didnt work so she started a second course.

on monday the 19 jan she was due to have her 2 dose of the new chemo but ended up being transfered to A&E as her breathing was very bad and they thought she might have an infection.

at first she had to have lots of oxygen as she was struggling to breath, they was dosing her up with antibiotics while they done tests to find out what was wrong.

it turns out the cancer had spread and was basicly blocking one lung off as she had it right at the top where it joins the lung together and she had pneumonia in the good lung.

she ended going to intensive care even though the nurse said she wasnt that serious at first but after being in intensive care a few hours she got really ill and they had to sedate her and put a tube down her throat to help her breath and try taking the pressure off her heart abit.

but thursday morning after arriving at the hospital and being told the night before her heart rate was dropping and they was going to give her a few days and start dropping the oxygen and get her breathing on her own.

when we arrived and they took us to the office and said that she is not responding to the antibiotics and with the cancer spreading as she was to ill to have chemo and her body to weak to fight the infection she will only last a few hours.

my mum was only 49yrs old and was only diagnosed with cancer in july but where it was such an aggressive form it grows so quickly.

the only thing thats keeping me from having a breakdown at the mo is my kids. they are to young to understand, my eldest is 2 1/2 yrs and he keeps asking to go nannys house as he loved it round there and my youngest is 4 1/2 months old, i have promised my mum ill make sure they know how wonderful their nanny was and how much she loved them

Lisa, id like to add my condolences as well. i know just how awful things like that are as my father in law died of lung cancer too and even tho the kids are much older, they still miss him. You wont forget her, as she will always be in your heart and in you too! love claire

  • lisamummytoarchieplusbump, there is nothing i can say, we went through the same with my wifes Mum several years ago, differant cancer but just as agressive, so know how hard a time it is for you too, after watching my OH go through it (and me too i suppose, she was not the stereotypicle mother in law, and we got on really well, so was like a second mum to me).

Time does heal, not completly, but it gets easier, take care sweet
