Ex company wont provide proof i paid them debt

My first post wondering if anyone can help.
I worked for a company last year and left oweing them £226 i paid this before it went to court and had proof but lost it. I've done a credit search on myself and it shows i have a ccj. The court want proof i have settled it but the company wont send me proof so i cannot satisfy it. They sent me a letter back saying i've already had proof and because it is a year old they do not have the infomation i am requesting. Surely all they need to do is send me a letter saying i have settled it which i can then send to the court.
Any help appreciated as i am applying for a mortgage soon and i know it will count against me.

how did you pay them back, was it via cheque or deduction from your wage?0

Unless it was cash, it should show on your bank or CC statements? If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

And if you are still stuck do a Subject Access Request. They have to send you everything that they hold relating to you over the last 6 years and it costs £10.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

There is something wrong here.
A CCJ is a County Court Judgement - ie the case goes to court, the judge hears the evidence and makes a judgement against the defendant. If you paid before it went to court, you couldn't have a CCJ against you, as the debt would have been settled without a court hearing.
Could you clarify this, please, as the procedure is different depending on whether there is a CCJ or not.
Thanks, Daisy.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
I got a letter saying it was going to court but didnt get a date because i had paid it off, even though it still shows on my record. It was paid by cheque but i put the money in someone else's account who paid it for me who i have lost contact with surely they have to provide proof for me0

Hi, I'm not too certain about this but I think companies have to keep records, of any nature, for a minimum of 5 years. It might be worth checking this out at companies house. Good luck and hope you get it sorted soon.
Opinions are like bottom holes, we all have one

Hi. Surely, if they sent you a letter saying they have already sent you proof that you have paid it...isn't that proof in itself that they are saying you paid the debt?My first post wondering if anyone can help.
