Mortgage - Default Registered - 13 Months On

Last year I was in the position of having to change jobs and during this time we ended up close to having the house taken off us. Now in time I managed to get the money together and pay everything off.
Despite this, Preferred Mortgages issued a default against me and my partner and despite numerous phone calls, letters and even a formal complaint to their complaints department 13 months later the default is still registered against my name.
A call today to preferred confirmed nothing other than someone telling me that a letter has been sent to amend the file but that was done weeks ago aparently.....
Who can I complain to about this, as preferred seem to be doing nothing about it? Also what effect has this default had against me for the past year and should I be seeking anything from preferred in order to resolve an issue caused by them which has affected me now for 13 months.....
Thanks for any help in advance.

Write to the credit reference agencies if you feel the default is registered in error and they should liase with Preferred and mark your file to show you dispute it.
Unfortunately if you missed payments with them then they can say that you defaulted on the terms of your agreement and you may be wasting your time.
If they have admitted that the default shouldn't have been registered ask them for a letter to confirm this and also that you are up to date.
As far as the effect of this default is concerned, if you're not applying for credit there won't be any effect, if you are then you will probably be declined by the more "high street" providers.
Good LuckHappily an ex mortgage broker!0 -
I wrote to Experian and reported the fact that Preferred had failed to maintain my file properly and they raised the issue with them.
A reply has now come back stating that legal action was started back in May 07 however I know this to be wrong as I cleared the amount owed in full before this. Preferred have told Experian that the default now stands.
How can they hold my account on my credit file in default if I still have the mortgage, no proceedings were ever taken and payments have been made since then on time and in full?
Who can I now complain to about this as Experian have got no where I have got no where and Preferred are standing their ground. Can they should a registered default if my account is still active and being paid? They have never started repossession or anything.......0 -
If you were late paying by even a month they can issue a default against you but they will have sent you a letter stating this before issuing the default. You dont need to go to court or anything for a default to be registered - just make sure the default is registered as satisfied. I had 2 registered against me a couple of years ago as i negotiated reduced payments during a difficult time - i never actually missed a payment but technically i had not kept to the original agreement.0

Yes but the account is ongoing can they do this keep my mortgage as showing as a default with the agreement ongoing? I would have thought the default could only stay on if they had terminated and ended my mortgage!0 -
