How long does cooked bacon last?

I've bought a value pack of bacon for tea tonight - my fiance is mainly vegetarian and doesn't like a lot of meat (not an ethical decision, she just doesn't like that much meat!)

I'm going to grill a bit for her, but I could cook the rest of the pack as it'd be better for my pocket energy wise to grill all of it rather than just grilling three pieces for dinner. How long will it last cooked and kept in an airtight container in the fridge? It'd be nice to have in sandwiches.

  • It'll easy keep for three days just in the fridge, but you can freeze cooked bacon.

I split large packs into little plastic bags of 2 or 3 rashers and then freeze, while the bacon is raw. I live by myself and if I didn't do this, I'd end up eating bacon every day for 3 or 4 days!

(I do the same with chicken breasts, mince etc).

Well, you could freeze the sandwiches or just freeze the bacon slices separately and make the sandwich up with the defrosted bacon. If you did freeze the bacon on its own, it would give you more flexibility of use for it once defrosted, i.e quiche, vegetable and bacon fritatta, chop it up and add it to pasta sauce, the possibilities are endless.
