You are right, its just one stage in a process of things to get your life back on track. I'm a little further down the line than you and have:
got new accommodation
been to court
had OR interview
rang a few creditors that persisted in hounding me
handed keys over/had house repossessed (wouldn't sign the 'form' they wanted me to sign)
So now waiting for 'what's next'....not really sure what that is!

Thanks everyone! MammaCas, we're just about to write to the mortgage lenders to ask how to surrender the keys. Is it ok at this stage to contact the secured loan people too and say that's what we're doing? best, Lily
ps Also for those about to do it, after court yesterday we walked over to the Co-Op and made an appointment to apply for our cashminder accounts. We went back this morning and the people we spoke to there were very charming and reassuring. Again, there was absolutely no sense of being treated like a second-class citizen.0 -

I wrote a letter and sent the keys by recorded delivery, however, they replied with one of their 'vol surrender forms' and said they wouldn't accept my letter. I copied the secured loan company in on the original letter.
Interestingly, they set a court date for the repo hearing, I wrote to them saying I wouldn't be contesting it and had tried to 'hand it over' and they took 'quiet repossession' and cancelled the court hearing. The house was repossessed on the Friday, on the market by the Tuesday. must admit to feeling sick when I saw it on Rightmove
The secured loan company sent a court summons type thing a few months ago and I wrote to them, the court and their solicitors telling them what was happening. They have gone v. v. quiet.
I have also copied the OR in on all of the above. Am hoping I don't hear from them at all now....(fingers crossed).

Co-op have been brilliant for me too and so has Barclays!!! I had an account with B's anyway so thought I'd get the cashcard account as I had no debt with them and they had always been really good with me- I use this account for my rent so I can save up and then it's taken out by standing order and then use the co-op for the other bits and bats I need to pay and do.
I am really impressed with both to be fair and as you say no second class citizen cr*p either. Makes it all feel a little better :-)*BSC member 159*If you can't get rid of the skeleton in your closet, you'd best teach it to dance.....:D

Thanks MC and Tigerlily. Having cleared it with the OR, we've written to the mortgage and secured loan people informing them of our intentions to surrender the keys. In the case of the mortgage holders, I asked them how we should get the keys to them - but I won't be signing any forms without double-checking here first! OR interview is July 10. I hope they let us know in advance what documents we need to have to hand.
