Tesco and non-Tesco vouchers

My Mummy just told me that you can use any voucher in Tesco to get money off your shopping, for example...

I cut out a voucher for an orange yoghurt that Tesco sells. Although I don't buy that yoghurt I give the cashier my 50p off voucher and she takes 50p off my shopping...

Really?!

I wasnt sure and emailed them about this the other day. Here is the email they sent me back. Hope this helps.

    Thank you for your email.
I have detailed below some information on the acceptance of coupons in our stores which I hope will help you. All Tesco specific coupons display the Tesco logo. We'll only accept these at the till if you buy the product shown on the coupon at the time.
We're happy to accept a non-Tesco product coupon even if you don't buy the item. But, the coupon must be in date and Tesco must sell the product. If you present more than one identical coupon you need to purchase the same number of products. This also includes coupons printed from the Internet, but these will only be accepted at the discretion of the Store Manager.
I hope this has helped to explain things for you.
Thank you for taking the time to contact us.

It's a case of trial and error, sometimes they will, sometimes they won't..

With regard to the 'discretion of the manager' bit for internet coupons, twice I have presented internet printed coupons (colour printed) at the same time of buying the product, and both times told that Tesco do not ever accept internet printed coupons, I was quite cross as the particular ones I had were only available if you printed them yourself! grr

I used coupons from newspapers without buying the product. SA from large stores are happy to take them. Local store always reject then without scanning.

I know Sainsbury's and Morrsion reject internet printed coupons. Tesco accepted them when I bought the product. e.g. £2.40 off InStyle mag.

Would Tesco scan internet coupons as money off if I don't buy the product?
