Hi there, I can really sympathise. Have you heard of Mary Berry she has some great cook books especially for cakes, most of them are made by putting all the ingredients in a bowl at the same time and mixing. There is a fab recipe somewhere on the site here for banana and lemon cake, great for using up ripe bananas and it is a doddle to make and it freezes well. what i have started doing is freezing extra veg that i have in the fridge before it gets to the stage of wilting and then i can use it as per usual from the freezer. Mushrooms freeze really well. Bulking out bolognaise would go down like a ton of bricks in my house but i put red peppers, onions and mushrooms in. Tired and dont feel like doing much ,then chop some ham up and add to pasta when cooked and drained, throw in an egg or two and a little cream and you have a meal. You can mix tuna fish with mayo and add to pasta or rice and that can be eaten as soon as you have made it or cold. I buy cheap chocolate powder and mix it with the expensive stuff. My family laugh at me because i use vinegar as a fabric softner and to clean windows! It is all trial and error what works for some will not for others. Just keep on plodding. take care

:D brilliant, thank you all ! Well, its just us two, only me & him here, the kids got out before I poisoned them. I can bake, surprisingly. I can just "throw things in" when I'm baking and it turns out ok.. But not in cooking
I got a lot from Asda today and am going to Costco tomorrow - surely between them I will find something that will end up edible. Today's disaster was ordering 6 cartons of UHT milk for when the end of the world comes --and finding the sell-by date is Sept. ( maybe its a message from god ? I hope heaven has chip shops.)
I have added red lentils to the list. From now on he will have lentils in everything. Short of custard.

BIG HUG i am sure we all here have made a bad meal that has been complained out. I have often had BFD - bad food days - then i start shouting and screaming for them all to get out my kitchen and then when they say they dont like it or they do not finish it all i sit there eating my dinner getting upset telling them it took me 2 hours to prepare and cook their meal and how they should be greatful, though i am pleased to say they are getting fewer as i am learning from my mistakes, and also what sort of ingredients i should use with what. Its all trail and error and i prefer that way of learning.

Don't lose heart, change a little at a time only once has my DH really complained that he could not eat my food most of the time i now get from him that it tastes really good what did i change, would not dream of telling him i put soya mince in his bolognaise or chillie lol has been months and he has not guess yet.
    Still Trying :o

I can't boil an egg, I can't make decent fried eggs, I often over cook (but manage to save before it becomes burnt!) meat, fish, pizza, any sauce :rotfl::rotfl: My soups are awful. But I keep trying, ;)
