My Debt Busting & Waist Reducing Diary

Options
Hi everyone.

I've been lurking here for a long time. I've been trying to follow the very good advice on this board but without success. I manage to keep the spending down, making money with eBay, doing my daily clicks, but...

I always end up back at square one buying things I don't really need. Books for example that get added to the pile of unread books, DVDs that get added to the pile of unwatched DVDs, magazines that I flick through looking at pictures, buying sandwiches at lunch time, it all adds up.

I need to stop this now, this debt is like a noose round my neck stopping me from doing the things I want to do.

Hopefully by keeping this diary it will keep me on the right road to being debt free.

I'll detail my debts in my next post.

Right then, my debts are as follows:

    Debt - Amount - Interest
    Cahoot Loan - £8,990.00 - 15.9%
    Halifax Visa - £6,000.00 - 6% life of balance
Northern Rock Loan - £1,773.24 - Not sure what the interest is, or if it's front loaded, I'll have to look
    Asda Visa - £1,367.30 - 16% I think

    Total £18,130.96

It's payday for me tomorrow and I've got enough money to pay off the Asda Visa this month as I've increased the cahoot loan and have scraped the money together from other places.

So this time tomorrow the debt will be:

    Cahoot Loan - £8,990.00
    Halifax Visa - £6,000.00
    Northern Rock Loan - £1,773.24

    Total - £16,763.24

    Plans to follow...

Plans for the next 6 months are:

    - No DVD, book or magazine buying
    - Take homemade lunches into work
    - Do daily clicks
    - eBay as much as possible, not got much left to sell though
    - Look into other money making ideas

    Plans for this week are:

    - Daily clicks
    - Reduce Sky package
    - Put some things on eBay

I'm sure I'll think of more as time goes on.

On another note, I'm jumping on the scales tomorrow morning. Diet will follow.

    Good luck with the scales!

Magazines, bottles of diet coke and sparkling water create a big hole in my purse- or I should say they did until 2 months ago. That is when we embarked on our debt free journey. I now find it incredible that I ever wasted money in such a way.

But its a bit like being on a diet and its so easy to put the weight back on.

Good luck with all your plans

Good luck with your plans. I found it hard to lose weight as home cooking cheaper but tastier and cheaper meat more fattening. Now on top of that but just to warn you!

Well I paid the Asda card off on Monday. Think I may aim to pay off the Northern Rock loan next, if I can save an extra £170 a month from now until Christmas I'll have enough to pay if all off, then I can concentrate on the Cahoot loan leaving the Halifax credit card till last.

Had to pay out £82 on repairs to the car yesterday and didn't put it on the credit card. Will have to see how I get on for the rest of the month, could make things a bit tight.

I'm going to a slimming club today, as I'm finding it hard to diet on my own. Think it's £4 a week, least I won't be buying junk food so hopefully it will save me money in the long run. Fruit is so dear though, I think I start going to the local market for it, hopefully it will be cheaper.

I had put £50 away towards the £170 a month I want for the loan, hopefully I won't have to dip into it cos of the car.

  • Hi Mrs Money, just wanted to say hello and well done. I'm new too and was flipping through a trashy magazine thinking "why on earth did I waste money on this" when I saw your thread so I thought I'd drop in and say hi as it struck a bit of a guilt chord with me as I need? want? to loose weight too but have just done an expensive unhealthy weekly shop!. You sound like you've got a plan though which is excellent, you must feel great having paid that card off.
