Options
Hi

I need to reduce some costs but also like the luxuries. currently have a Sky+ box, along with a Sky HD and multiroom.

Anyway - I do have the luxury I can goto virgin but dont really want to.

Anyway - has anyone tried to cancel sky and was given a better deal?

I knoww its sneaky but in times like this, need to do all we can.

I threatened to cancel Sky 2 weeks ago and was offered an upgrade to Sky+ at no extra cost. However, as you are already have this and Sky HD there is not alot they can offer you apart from price reductions. My advice to you is to phone customer services and threaten to cancel. They will put you through to the Cancellations Team who will offer you some kind of price reduction. If they don't you can change your mind.

I managed to get £12 off for 3 months yesterday after threatening to cancel following notification of latest price hike (increasing from £65 to £67 p.m.)

Not a huge amount...but certainly worth the call!

I phoned a month ago and they reduced the price of my package, they will always offer a reduction, just be adamant that you cannot continue and that your looking at other options.

    Please can someone help :)

I have decided that i am going to cancel my SKY due to a number of reasons, the main one being that they have charged me for a Ricky Hatton fight that took place 6 months ago!

Whenever i have mentioned canceling before on an old account i had in a shared house they said i am tied in to a 12 month contract and if i do cancel then i will have to pay the remainder of the contract?

How do i go about getting out of the contract without having to pay? or even better get a reduction on my package....i am going to buy a freesat box when i get a HD TV, round about the time my Sky contract runs out.

    Any advice much appreciated :)
  • you cant get out of a 12 month contract as far as i am aware - you can change the contract but not "get out" of it

Freeland: You can't 'get out of' a (legally binding) contract you have signed up to unless you can argue that sky are in breach of contract. You may be able to argue this if, for example, they have charged you for something you did not purchase (possibly). you would be on stronger grounds if say you signed up to their broadband (which ties you in to a contract) but the sevice they provided was rubbish and not what was advertised.

Slewis 1972: If you have multi room you could cut costs by getting a tv sender or similar which would give you sky in all rooms but only one channel at a time. we have this in our house and it works very well with few arguements about what channel we watch (having sky plus would help to reduce the tension).

I wonder if you could get free sat on the remaining boxes if you cancelled your multi room subscription? anyone know.

Thanks for the advice guys :)

My contract is coming to an end in September so i will probably cancel it then :)

I just don't understand how people are getting all of these reductions (eg 3 months half price, and free sky +) if you cannot cancel?

If your contract finishes in September then you should phone in August i.e 30 days before the contract ends to give your notice to quit. Sky always apply a 30 day notice period, so you dont want to be paying for more time than you want.
You can also phone in now to down grade your package to the cheapest possible. You are not stuck on the movies pacakge or sports pack etc for the full 12 months.
People who get deals are those than have completed their initial 12 months and can quit at any time.
