Waiting for first wobbly tooth...

I'm asking for someone else but I can't find any info....When do you become concerned that there's no sign of a child not loosing their milk teeth. This one is 6 1/2 and everyone in her class are loosing teeth all over the place and she's feeling rather left out!

The average age for the loss of the first baby tooth - which will usually be one of the lower front ones - is 7 yrs old.

Averages can easily vary a couple of years either way, and still be perfectly normal.

A personal observation (nothing scientific) suggests that kids are loosing their teeth a bit earlier these days. I can't remember the last time I saw an 8yr old who hadn't lost a baby tooth, and yet there are a fair few 4 yr olds staring to loose them.

    Still, I wouldn't be concerned at 6 1/2.

Generally the first adult teeth are the first adult molars that come through behind the baby teeth at the back.

On average this happens whan a child is 6. Your friend could have a look and see if these are present (There would be 12 teeth in each jaw rather than 10 if it were only baby teeth.

If the first adult molars are present, then tooth loss will follow pretty soon.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

My DS is 6 and 3 months and is feeling left out as his teeth as firmly staying put. He didn't get his 1st baby tooth until he was 13 months old but could gum his way through an apple!

Surely if the child in question is seeing their dentist every 6 months, then any problems would be picked up on?

The count up this morning revealed a grand total of 24 so I guess the tooth fairy had better start saving up. The last check up was in March and no comment was made at the time . It's just that all her friends are starting to look a bit gappy! The very first ones appeared when she was 6 months old. It's my grandaughter btw.

My daughter (8) has her bottom front teeth fully grown in but the problem is...she hasn't lost her baby teeth there so she has a double row of teeth.

The dentist has just taken some impressions to judge spacing and he may have to pull the baby ones to make space as there's no sign of them leaving by themselves.

She's also got her 2 top ones coming in but the 2 top baby ones got knocked out in an accident so no issues there.

The longer she waits for her second teeth, the longer she'll have them at the other end (as my Mum used to say, lol).

DD lost her 1st tooth last month - she was 6 yrs and 7 months. Our other 2 children were 'late' loosing theirs too.........however they have got to 17 & 14 and never had a filling or bad teeth either, so maybe coming out later means they are healthier?;)
