Hi redmatchstickman
I'll bump up your thread for you and see if there are any replies
Have a good holiday. The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese :cool:0 -
Take a camera of a decent quality, and just take lots of pictures of where ever you are.
You can either sell them on for a good price, which they have to be really good quality or just sell them onto stock photos sites.
This is something that I am going to do while in Germany and take photos of tonnes of stuff and just sell them onto the stock photos sites. They won't be anything amazing or anything just taken for a bit of money.

How do you sell to stock pohoto sites? What prices do they ususlly pay?0

I would be interested in this-I'm off to Cyprus in a couple of weeks. Last time we were there I took a great piccie of a wild praying mantis in my Mums tree, I never thought there could be a market in selling piccies. Can you expand on this a little and pm some urls please.

And also don't forget people are always looking to buy some duty free;)

If you check out this thread then you'll find plenty of help:

There are generally two different types of site that you can sell too..
Micro-stock websites
Stock photo sites-these won't pay you a lot,but they are a good starter. This is what I plan to do,as it will be a lot easier than the one below. But make sure you don't give really good images to these sort of sites...as that would be a total waste.
examples...
https://www.fotolia.com https://www.submit.shutterstock.com
https://www.bigstockphoto.com
The other type:
This type of site is for really good pictures, and I mean really good pictures. You have to meet their size specifications and a pretty high quality camera.
They work by approving work which is then displayed on the site, and then when a picture is sold you get commission.
Example:
http://www.britishimages.co.uk/
Another site that people appear to be able to sell images online is Flickr.

I'm curious as to why you think giving really good images to the micro stock sites would be a total waste? Have you done any research into how much money you can make from them, in comparison to say, British Images?0 -

When I was folllowing it when it was active.
But with British Images the commission is alot higher compared to any micro-stock site I've seen around. So in theory you would have to sell 10+ images to equal the amount that British Images give..that may be wrong, but that's what I gathered.
I'm just trying to help that's all..I would have rather you have just posted saying that what I have said is wrong and that my knowledge of this subject is incorrect.
Oh well.:o0 -
Sorry, I wasn't saying you were wrong - I just know nothing about the sort of money that can be made on British Images, and you seemed quite confident in your information.
I do submit to micro stock sites, and to be honest, I can't imagine that there are many of the 'macros' that could pull in more £s per image - but I'm perfectly willing to be proved wrong! ;-)
That said, to make any money from any of the sites, you need to have great images - that means totally technically perfect (pin sharp, totally noiseless, no purple fringing, etc) and also great composition of saleable subjects.0
