'Credit Searches'

Hi,

About two weeks ago, I went into Abbey, to close an old account (I've got two), and the woman behind the counter said I'd been 'pre-approved' for a c.c.

I took this with a pinch of salt (they probably say it to everyone), but I enquired as to the credit limit I'd get. She said she'd have to put it through the system, and I'd be credit-checked. I hesitated, but thinking that I wouldn't need to apply for any other credit anytime soon, I said ok.

Anyway, I got offered £1k, but didn't proceed with the application (I've heard so many bad things on MSE about Abbey that I didn't fancy the hassle!).

I'm now thinking about applying for the ASDA credit card (2p off fuel - not much, but it all helps!), also to build my credit rating up (I plan to pay off in full each month), but am slightly worried about applying for it less than a month from the credit search by Abbey.

Do you think this will be a problem?

When apart from that Abbey search was your last one it,s safe for 3 or 4 in a period of longer than 6 months..
  • Personally I think you'd be better getter a card with a lower APR as 2p off alitre is only useful if you settle the balance ach month.

The Post Office (really Bank of Ireland) have a half decent decent (not best) card available...well wortha look anyway.

I haven't had any other credit searches (apart from opening bank accounts - no overdraft).

@Chris1962Blue: I agree with what you say about the high APR, but as I will be settling the bill each month it shouldn't cause a problem.

I just thought I could save a few pence on petrol (It'd work out to about £30-40 for the year if prices keep going up...), and establish a credit history at the same time. Just gotta be self-disaplined, I suppose!
