Debt collection-advice please

Hello, this is my first thread and I need advice from the experienced amoungst you or any advice from anyone please.
We are currently in debt to the tune of 100,000 pounds give or take. the main cards we owe on are the mainstream and have been fantastic in their response to letters and all have all agreed(for now) stopping interest charges and reducing payments. However, there are two smaller amounts we owe to GE money and Littlewoods catalogue who are immoveable in their stance. I have just spoken to Littlewoods and they are very nice but are still referring us to Nationwide debt collection agency. We are one month in arrears.
Does anyone know of how Littlewoods usually react to non payment and has anyone had experience with Nationwide debt collection agency?
Does anyone have experience of GE money(one month behind again)?
If it is a scary reply I don't mind as we need to know whats ahead.
We have been utterly stupid with money since we were married 25 years ago and quite honestly we are glad the credit crunch has arrived. It has made us realise how irresponsible we have been!
Time to face the music and its not pleasant but in a another way it is uplifting to be in control and budgeting for the first time in our lives

Nationwide Debt Recovery (NDR) are simply Littlewoods own internal collections department.
They are not a separate DCA at all.

Hi, Fermi,
thanks for your info- this is reassuring.
May I ask how you know this? Have you had dealings with them?

I have with NDR. I wrote to them offering a payment each month and they accepted. Don't deal with any DCA on the telephone, keep everything in writing. They cannot bully you as much that way. And don't panic at letters threatening court and stuff. Just keep posting on here, the guys here are fab. You probably should put up a statement of affairs (SOA), there is a link somewhere to that and the guys here can advise you of what to do. There are also loads of good letters on the national debtline website that you can copy and paste, but check if you google it that it is definitely the charity national debtline that you are going to. I am sure some of the more experienced DFW(debt free wannabees) will be along with some sound advice.LBM £18463.32 in debt 10th June 2008,£12470.99 in debt 10th June 2009.:jTime flies like an arrow.

No, But there are plenty of people here who have.
If you search the forum, you will find a lot of threads mentioning them.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Thanks NUFC, Fermi,
I have no clue about posting an SOA - if I can get my head around it I will. I will be grateful for any sound advice about paring the funds even more. Its getting to be even slightly enjoyable at times (weird) We have arranged lots of repayment plans with the companies involved. Payplan and National Debtline have helped with the letters but we are self- negotiating.
Fermi, I will look around the site for more info re: Littlewoods and GE

Hi
I am currently dealing with NDR who sent me a letter the day after LX direct told me they were giving my account to another company???
I agreed a payment which I could afford which they agreed, they then sent me a letter telling me that it wasn't enough!!! I contacted National Debt line who were great, who advised me that I should write to LX asking to see copy of credit agreement and to state that they agreed to the sum- I wrote to both LX direct & NDR- got no actual reply- just a standard letter tellng what & when my repayments will be!!
Ndr told me that they would be 'selling' my account & all sorts of things came to my mind.
The stupid thing is bth Lx direct & littlewoods send me cats, emails & flyers- I would never ever use them again anyway.
With GE money, I wrote to them explained situation & asked for time & help- got a letter back telling me I still get letters as account in arrears- then got sent default notice- which seems crazy as they are aware of the situation & I am working with payplan, but they seem determine to add more pressure.
Hope that helps0 -
Hi
I have both Littlewoods and GE Money as creditors.
Littlewoods accepted straight away with no problems. Never been passed to anyone else yet.
GE Money wrote lots of letters and made all sorts of threats for 3 months, then accepted, then before I could make anymore payments, passed all my debts to CL finance, who I have to say have been excellent so far. I'm even happy to phone them as they are quite reasonable.LBM : March 2008

Thanks Rockbottom2 and Tigert,
it is interesting how varied everybodys' experiences are with the same company. GE money are immovable at the moment but it is early days and I will wait with bated breath for Littlewoods to sort their debt collection arm out and get in touch with me.
It is so irritating as all our other creditors have been brilliant so far and we owe them much more than Littlewoods and GE. I will certainly be working to pay these two off as soon as is possible. It is very stressful when they won't play ball. Thank goodness they don't all react in the same way or I would never sleep again!
Good luck with yours, DW x0
