Tesco Green Clubcard points now at self service tills

Options
I have searched and can't find this mentioned elsewhere.

In Tesco yesterday at the self service till it asked me how many of my own bags I had used and then added the points on! This seems to be new as it is the first time I have seen it.

Yes it asked me the last time I was in too. Is the green clubcard a different card from the normal one? We have so many bags that we could reuse..

No it's the same clubcard but you get green points for reusing bags. They just add them onto your total and they come out in your mailing along with your normal points. It's a really easy way to bump your points up!

In this case I think they mean you will receive green clubcard points which is points on saving the environment eg reuse bags, recycle mobiles etc. These points are just added to your normal points.
The green coloured clubcard is for those with a clubcard plus account.icon7.gif

Ohh I see. I might actually start taking a bag down then if I'm at home before I pop in.

So is there a limit to [strike]how much discount you can get[/strike] how many carriers you claim to have saved?

  • I would imagine, as the whole self check-out works on weight, I would allocate a number of bags according to weight, with a little leeway either side to account for bulky items .

i'd like to delve a little deeper into this as it doesnt look like anyone has indicated any 'testing' of this option. I noticed this had appeared when I went in tesco yesterday (looks like they've updated all the tills as theres also a new on screen 'volume control' at the bottom when using the till) and instantly pressed to see what happens, put in one bag and got a green clubcard point even though I hadnt actually reused a bag, no checking or anything.I went in again today and did the same altough I didnt actually take a carrier today so in essence its the same as reusing a carrier. What I want to know is, is this thing limited? It seems like a simple honesty thing so has anyone tested it? Seems like an easy way to get loads of clubcard points but I dont want to go keying in 50 bags unless it goes off and I end up looking a bit stupid!

In my local Tesco (Talbot Green), when they first had this option, you could put in the number of bags without anyone checking if you genuinely had reused that number of bags.

I went in earlier this week and this has now changed If you say you have reused 3 bags, it has to be approved by a member of staff.

I imagine they were cottoning on to people taking advantage of extra green clubcard points

They need to have a check in place or else this could get seriously abused. Great that you can get points this way without having to queue at CS all the time though!
